Ogura Matcha is our highest grade of ceremonial matcha. This rare matcha is traditionally reserved for the most exclusive of tea ceremonies. This special and very rare macha comes directly to us from organic tencha plantation in the Ogura area in the Uji region, which is known as one of the primary production centres of the highest grades of matcha and gyokuro; Ogura is the location where Matcha was first grown. This new exclusive organic Uji Matcha made from Yamanoibuki cultivar; a very rare cultivar in tencha production.

Growing conditions, time of harvest and processing techniques have a direct effect on the grade and final flavour of the Matcha:

Ceremonial grade Matcha uses the finest, smallest shade grown leaves from the very tip of the tea bush - giving it a very vibrant green colour and a slightly sweet, smooth flavour.

Premium grade Matcha is ideal for both drinking and home baking, can add unique flavour and incredible colour to food and drink recipes.

Basic grade Matcha is slightly bitter, less expensive and is generally only used for cooking.

Product directions


Take matcha tea, bowl, sifter, bamboo scoop and whisk: - Sift 1 matcha scoop (1/2 teaspoon) matcha directly into the bowl - Add 70-90ml of hot water (under boiling, 75C/175F) - Whisk rapidly back and forth until matcha is dissolved - Drink immediately.
